Rider Update – Luke Shelton

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to send in a little update on what’s going on with me, and my plans for the summer.  My ankle and foot are pretty much 100% recovered.  I still wear an ankle brace every time I ride just to be safe, but it feels strong.  I’m currently working on a new Crux Division edit, should be out in the next month or so, and then I’ll be hitting the road for the entire summer.

First, I’m going to Peru for about two weeks.  This isn’t a bmx trip, just something me and my girlfriend have always talked about and finally made a reality.  First, we’re going on a 7 day hiking trip to Machu Picchu.  After that, we’ll have about a week to do whatever we want.  I’m really looking forward to exploring such a great culture and meeting the people there.

When I get back from Peru, I’m getting on a bus and heading to OKC to hang out with the Delic crew and the rest of the Oklahomies.  A few of us are planning on driving out to Cali for a couple of weeks.  I’m pretty psyched on getting to ride in So-Cal for the first time.  I think it will be a great chance to meet a lot of new people and make a lot of new friends.  I’m not really sure what stops we’ll be making on the way, but I trust it will be an adventure to say the least.

After Cali I’ll be going to Woodward East for 5 weeks as an instructo/counselor.  I’ve never been to Woodward, but I already know that will be an incredible experience.  I’m riding out there with Jamie Barnhart.  We have been thinking about making it out to Phillie and NYC while we’re out there.  It’s crazy to think that I could potentially be driving from one coast to the other this summer.

After all of my travels are over, I’m going to be moving to Austin, Texas.  I haven’t found a job there yet, but I already quit my job in KC, so it’s definitely happening.  My girlfriend also got into Engineering grad school at UT, which is a huge deal.  I can’t wait to be a part of such a huge scene.  In Kansas City it can sometimes be difficult to find someone to ride with, let alone film.  I’m also really really looking forward to having Torchys Tacos on the regular.  I’m going to miss everyone in KC, and of course the thousands of buttery spots, but I’ll always have KC as my home.

Should be an incredible summer.  I’ll be broke and hungry, but that’s pretty much how I always live, so I might as well live it on the road.
